At least 27 people have died after a minibus carrying churchgoers collided head-on with a truck near Chivhu, central Zimbabwe.
Seven people were injured in Friday’s crash, about 140km south of Harare. Police said the passengers were members of an Indigenous African Christian denomination travelling to a conference.
The truck, registered abroad, was overtaking another vehicle when it collided with the minibus. Images showed the minibus badly damaged and burned out.
The crash is the latest in a series of deadly road accidents in Zimbabwe. Authorities say 94% of crashes are caused by human error, while overcrowded minibuses, poor road conditions and potholes also contribute to road deaths.
In April, 18 people died after a minibus caught fire, while another crash that month killed a woman and her five children.
Across Africa, road crashes kill about 300,000 people each year, according to the UN Economic Commission for Africa.
