21 Christians, Muslims and Jews to be recognised for interfaith work

by Eno Adeogun

21 for 21 will award prizes to seven Christians, seven Jews and seven Muslims whose work is making a difference.

It's being put together by Jewish News, Church Times, British Muslim TV and interfaith group Coexist House.

Justin Cohen from the Jewish News told Premier the kind of people they are looking for.

"Anyone first of all under the age of 35 that's at the forefront of building and maintaining contacts and cooperation, engagement and indeed awareness between the faiths - because it's when you have a vacuum of contacts between people that misconceptions take hold."

A spokesperson for the four organisations echoed this point and added: "With a combined audience of more than 350,000 across the three communities, we are uniquely placed to highlight the many glowing examples of positive interactions to our readers and viewers, and to spread awareness to wider society."

Cohen told Premier Christians, Muslims and Jews have lots in common.

"There's so much we're on the same page about. Whether it be areas of circumcision, faith schools, kosher and halal meat - there's so much," he added.

The judges for the seven Christians will be Rev Michaela Youngsan, the President of the Methodist Conference, the Most Revd Kevin McDonald from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark and a third judge is yet to be confirmed.

The winners will be given prizes at Lambeth Palace on 19th November 2018.
