A couple from Cornwall has uncovered a striking 10ft painting of Jesus Christ in a local barn and is seeking help to identify the artist.
Former art teacher Sarah Worne and her husband Mike purchased the barn and surrounding land near Lostwithiel in October. Speaking to the BBC, Worne revealed that the artwork had been concealed behind layers of plasterboard.
The painting depicts the crucifixion of Jesus, with two figures beside him, likely representing the Virgin Mary and John the Disciple. Worne described the discovery as an “unexpected treasure” and noted that it remains in excellent condition. She compared its style to religious artworks produced in Newlyn, southwest Cornwall, during the 1920s and 1930s.
A signature on the back of the painting reads "Teresa Fuller 1951–1952," but little is known about the artist. Worne has appealed for information from the public to uncover more about the painting’s origins.
The artwork is currently being housed at St Bartholomew’s Church in Lostwithiel.
