The Diocese of Blackburn has launched its 'Year of Prayer', uniting over 22,000 pupils and staff from 128 primary schools in a two-day Zoom event led by Bishop of Blackburn, Rt Rev Philip North.
This initiative, running from Advent 2024 to Advent 2025, marks a spiritual journey leading up to the diocese's centenary in 2026.
During the launch, Bishop Philip, supported by his Chaplain, Rev Sam Cheeseman, emphasised the transformative power of prayer, telling the Lancashire Telegraph: "Prayer is not just about words; it's about opening our hearts to God and to each other.
"This year, we're inviting everyone in our diocese to listen to God's voice and discern His plan for the Church in Lancashire."
Director of Education for the Diocese, Iain Parks, praised the event for its impact: "It was incredible to see so many young people engage deeply with the importance of prayer.
"They shared their worries and concerns, praying for their communities and themselves", he said.
Pupils were encouraged to pray weekly using a specially designed poster, ensuring all schools unite in prayer on the same topic throughout the year.
Additional resources, including weekly worship guides and practical prayer activities, will help integrate prayer into daily classroom life.
The Year of Prayer promises to be a cornerstone of spiritual growth and renewal for the diocese, fostering a shared connection across its community.
