Players from Germany, Ecuador, Ivory Coast and Curacao have united in prayer after their final World Cup group games.
Group E teams came together in a united act, showing the gospel transcends nations and football.
As the final whistle blew for Ecuador’s 2-1 upset win against Germany, to secure their place in the knockouts, Moises Caicedo dropped to his knees in prayer. The team then came together, kneeling arm in arm, in a circle for a moment of thanksgiving before the celebrations.
Having been opponents on the pitch, some players from the two sides came together in their own prayer huddle.
In the group’s other game on Thursday, Ivory Coast and Curacao players also came into a huddle after the final whistle to pray. Ivory Coast’s 2-0 win saw them qualify to the round of 32.
It means Curacao, the smallest nation in the tournament, have been knocked out. Players from the southern Caribbean island have been vocal in praising Jesus, praying and singing worship throughout.
“In a tournament built on rivalry, this is a reminder that there is something greater than football. Different nations. Different shirts. One king”, an Instagram post from Ballers in God said.
“The world tells us to divide. Jesus brings us together”, the football ministry added.
