A translation of the four Gospels into the distinctive Welsh dialect spoken in north Pembrokeshire has been launched at the National Eisteddfod, one of Wales' largest cultural events.
The translation was completed by the late Rev Lyn Lewis Dafis, who was born in Mynachlog-Ddu and had a longstanding interest in Welsh, theology and minority languages.
Using the Beibl Cymraeg Newydd (New Welsh Bible) as his starting point, Rev Dafis translated the Gospels into the Welsh spoken in his native north Pembrokeshire. The work was completed around 2000 but remained unpublished when he died in 2022, aged 61.
With permission from his family, the translation was later made available online as Y Beder Ifengyl yn iaith Sir Benfro (The Four Gospels in Pembrokeshire Welsh).
In 2026, the Bible Society commissioned an audio recording of the translation. The project was carried out by Undeb yr Annibynwyr Cymraeg (Union of Welsh Independents) in partnership with Llyfrau Llafar Cymru (Talking Books Wales), with volunteers from across Pembrokeshire.
The audio edition was launched on 6 August as part of the ap Beibl Welsh Bible app, alongside a tribute to Rev Dafis. It was presented by Sian Rees of the Bible Society at the Eisteddfod.
The project was also featured on the BBC Cymru programme Dechrau canu dechrau canmol in May.
