A church in Caernarfon, North Wales, has been left with “significant damage” after it was struck by lightning during an early morning thunderstorm on Saturday 14th June.

Caersalem Church on Garnon Street was hit at around 6am, causing structural and electrical damage, including to its audio-visual systems, as reported by Wales Online.

Despite the disruption, church leaders have confirmed that services will go ahead as usual.

Rev Rhys Llwyd said that while things may “look a little different in the short term”, the church remains “undeterred” and focused on worship and community life.

“As a church, we are otherwise experiencing a season of remarkable blessing, with a growing and vibrant congregation each Sunday. We're especially looking forward to a baptism service in a few weeks’ time. Plenty to be thankful for!,” she added.

The incident occurred as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms across Wales, with flood alerts in place in parts of the south due to rising river levels.
