Just as Joe Biden gathered prominent Christians to support him last week, Trump is also leaving a space at his party's convention for Christian leaders to rally around him.
Pastor Andrew Brunson, who was imprisoned in Turkey as a suspect of a failed political coup, was part of a six-person panel of former hostages who praised the President for getting them back to their families.
The Christian minister said: "I was held in Turkey for two years, and you took unprecedented steps to secure my release, and your administration really fought for me.
"I think if you hadn't done, I may still be in Turkey so I'm really grateful."
The President then said of the Turkish leader: "I have to say, to me, President Erdogan was very good."
Billy Graham's granddaughter Cissie Graham Lynch has also delivered a short speech criticising the social policies of the Democrats under Obama and calling President Trump a 'fierce advocate' for Christians, saying his talk of religious persecution at the United Nations gave hope to people around the world.
She said: "The Biden-Harris vision of America leaves no room for people of faith, whether you're a baker, a florist or a football coach, they will force the choice between being obedient to God or to Caesar, because the radical Left's God is Government power."
On the Democrat side, Biden has been emphasising his Catholic faith and Kamala Harris her Baptist upbringing in a bid to win over Christians who are undecided.
