WATCH: Christian MPs and Peers read the Easter story

by Cara Bentley

Parliamentarians have recorded themselves reading the narrative of Jesus on the Cross and his resurrection.

Conservative MP Andrea Leadsom starts off the Easter story, reading from Mark 15:33 when Jesus is on the Cross: "At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon".

With each parliamentarian telling part of the event, the video also features the MPs from all political persuasions, including: Ian Blackford, Jonathan Reynolds, Tim Farron, Janet Daby, Andrew Selous, Jeffrey Donaldson, Miriam Cates, Sir Gary Streeter, Ruth Jones, Ian Paisley, Rachael Maskell, Marsha de Cordova, Eddie Hughes, Maria Caulfield, Lisa Cameron, Taiwo Owatemi and Nick Fletcher.

The peers include former Cabinet member Baroness Nicky Morgan, Lord Peter Curry, Baroness Sal Brinton, Lord Paul Boateng and Baroness Rev Maeve Sherlock.

To describe Jesus' resurrection, they turn to Luke 24:1 and then to John 20 for the account of how Thomas the disciple only believed in the resurrection when he saw Jesus.

The film, called 'A Renewed Hope', ends with all the parliamentarians saying: "Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name."
