Vicar to sing on BBC The Voice

Revd John Barron, Vicar for High Spen and Rowland Gill in Gateshead will be singing on the show in front of judges Boy George, Paloma Faith, will.i.am and Ricky Wilson.

He will perform 'This is the moment' from the Show Jekyll & Hyde and told Premier the process has been nerve wracking: "My goodness, when you're stood there waiting to go out onto the stage with the lights and the audience, it's one of the most nerve wracking things I've ever done I think!"

He told Premier that his family had always joked about him singing on TV: "My wife applied for me to go onto the show and a few weeks later I think it was, I found out that I was accepted for an audition - it came as a bit of a surprise but I've gotta say I was quite excited about it!"

Revd John Barron added that he will not let fame go to his head: "I've got three services to do on Sunday morning so it'll be normal in that sense... I'm going to be thinking about our all-ages service.

"It's Baptism of Christ on Sunday so we're going to be thinking about water and we're going to be thinking about baptism."

The 49-year-old is singing on the first show of the new season and has always been involved in music and uses it in church.

The show will be broadcast at 7:30pm on 9 January.
