Reverend Robert Williamson of St Cuthbert's Church, in Darlington, County Durham is taking part in a sponsored hymnathon.
He is singing all 628 hymns in the Common Praise hymn book and has been serenading the congregation for two hours every day over the past seven says, finishing on Friday - his 60th birthday.
Revd Williamson told Premier: "I knew that the heating system needed replacing, so there's a practical side.
"I've always enjoyed singing, I did music and theology as my degree, so I suppose that's always been in my blood stream, so singing hymns seems to follow on quite nicely from that."
He added that: "we have this new hymn book which has got a wider selection of hymns in it, so it's enabled me to learn some new hymns as well.
"I think my favourite hymn is probably Dear Lord and Father of Mankind, it's got beautiful words, a beautiful tune and the tune articulates the words very well indeed."
