Vatican unimpressed by new Stars Wars movie portrayal of evil characters

The Church's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, claimed the villains in 'The Force Awakens' aren't quite evil enough.

"The new director's set-up fails most spectacularly in its representation of evil," according to the newspaper's review. "Darth Vader and above all the Emperor Palpatine were two of the most efficient villains in that genre of American cinema."

"This time around, the villains are more insipid than devilish."

The Force Awakens has had the biggest opening day in UK Box Office history.

The film took over £9 million on Thursday alone - with midnight screenings accounting for nearly a third of that figure.

It's set to easily become the biggest movie of the year and could and potentially top Avatar's worldwide total box office gross of $2.7 billion.
