US Christian group accuses Disney of being anti-faith

by Hannah Tooley

A Texas group, Texas Values, has criticised Apple, Disney, Intel and the NCAA, calling them 'corporate bullies', for urging Georgia Governor Nathan Deal into vetoing a bill that would have effectively allowed legalised discrimination against LGBT people.

A range of companies spoke out against the bill and Disney threatened a boycott, saying it would no long film in the state if the bill was to pass and become law.

According to The Huffington Post, Texas Values, has claimed that these companies have 'declared war' on religion.

It wrote: "It's striking that the day after Easter, churches in Georgia are told their freedoms are not that important to protect.

"It's clear that corporate giants like Apple, Disney, NCAA, Intel have finally come out of the closet and declared public war on the religious freedom of clergy and religious schools, as was the protection in Georgia's very modest HB 757 that they worked to bring down."

It continued "Will Disney now ban you from wearing a cross outside your shirt at their parks?"

"Will a Catholic priest be forced to remove his white collar when he takes a picture with Mickey Mouse?"

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal said the veto was independent from the boycott threat from Disney, saying: "Georgia is a welcoming state.

"It is full of loving, kind and generous people. And that is what we should want. I intend to do my part to keep it that way."

Disney has a number of religiously themed events including Christmas processions as well as performances from Christian acts.
