US President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order creating the Religious Liberty Commission.

The new order is aimed at protecting and promoting religious freedom across the United States.

The commission will include faith leaders, legal experts, and public advocates, and will advise the White House on policy, report on threats to religious liberty, and recommend actions to strengthen protections.

Focus areas include parental rights in education, conscience protections, and the defence of religious institutions.

The move builds on Trump’s previous initiatives to uphold religious freedom, combat anti-Semitism and anti-Christian bias, and give faith communities a stronger voice in government.

Meanwhile, the president underscored the importance of faith in American life during remarks at a National Day of Prayer gathering held at the White House.

Speaking to faith leaders and supporters, Trump said it was a "great honour" to host the event and highlighted the significance of religion in shaping the nation's identity.

“We’re bringing back religion in our country, and we’re bringing it back quickly and strongly,” he declared.

Trump suggested the clear skies and pleasant weather on the day of the event were a sign of blessing, saying: “Maybe that means something, that it brings us a little luck.”

In his address, he described the White House as a place for the people and praised the spiritual foundations of the United States.

“Because for America to be a great nation, we must always be one nation under God, a phrase the radical left would like to get rid of,” he said.

The president also noted that this year’s ceremony was larger and more public than in previous years, stating: “This is the first time it’s been done this way, and you deserve it. We all deserve the White House.”
