Trump critic selling Bible signed by president for £29,000

A critic of Donald Trump is auctioning a Bible signed by the president for just almost £30,000. A listing for the item went up on Monday, with the asking price set at $37,500 (approx £29,200).

According to Business Insider, the item was signed on the same week Trump famously held up a Bible outside St John's Church, Lafayette Square having instructed police to clear protesters from the area. The Bible for sale, a King James Version, is not thought to be the same one as held aloft by the President.

The seller, Gary Zimet, called out the president for using signing the sacred book. "Someone like him, having the gall to sign a Bible, after what he did in the photo op is revolting," he told BI. "The only thing I'm interested in, vis-à-vis Trump, is making a profit off of him."

This is not the first time the President has signed the Bible and handed it to his supporters - in 2019, he did the same while greeting survivors of a tornado in Alabama.

"I sign things, and the next night, I see them on eBay. They're sold. They're sold for a lot of money"," Trump has previously said. Last month, the president was caught signing things while visiting first responders in Louisianna following Hurricane Laura: "Here, sell this tonight on eBay, you'll get $10,000," he told one police officer, handing him a signed piece of paper.

"If I put your name down it loses a lot of value... sell it tonight on eBay," he added to another first responder, handing him what appeared to be a signed envelope.
