Top BBC comedy to look at role of vicars in rural communities

by Marcus Jones

The third and final series of the BBC's award winning comedy This Country is set to focus on the role of the vicar in rural communities.

Rev Francis Seaton, played by Paul Chahidi, has become a fan favourite in recent years as the show documents the pastoral support he gives to cousins Kerry and Kurtan Mucklowe.

The mockumentary follows the pair as they struggle with life in an unnamed rural village where opportunities are scarce.

The new series, made up of six episodes, will feature characters already in the show as well as appearances from special guests - including staff from a local recycling centre.

Writer Charlie Cooper, who also stars in the show, said: "When we were writing this series, the vicar became more of a focal point.

"The first was Kurtan trying to escape, the second was Kerry's unrequited love of her dad.

"The third was exploring him (the vicar)."

The third series of This Country will start at 7pm on BBC iPlayer on Monday February 17.
