US Christian rapper TobyMac has released a new song which reveals all the emotions he’s had while dealing with the death of his son.

Truett, 21, suffered from a cardiac arrest on  23rd  October in the family home in Tennessee.

Announcing the release of ‘21 Years’, TobyMac said in a social media post that writing the song has helped him process the hardest time he’s ever faced.

He added it was song that he never wanted to write but hoped “it’s for someone out there, or maybe it’s just for me".

In a separate Instagram post with a clip of the song, TobyMac explained how the role his Christian faith played in processing grief.

“Writing this song felt like an honest confession of the questions, pain, anger, doubt, mercy and promise that describes the journey I’m probably only beginning.

“One thing I know is that I am not alone. God didn’t promise us a life of no pain or even tragic death, but He did promise He would never leave us or forsake us.”

Some of the lyrics of the song say:

Woke up 'cause the light poured in

Day two, let the flood begin

Day one left me in my bed (In my bed)

I can barely remember it

Heart shattered in a thousand ways

They tell me pain gonna come in waves

They tell me I'm gonna be okay

I'm still waitin' for the first to break

The rapper and his wife, Amanda, launched a foundation in honour of their son at the end of October.

Truett had put out a number of different songs under different names and had also collaborated with his dad on a number of songs.

The Truett Foster Foundation will raise money to help young people pursue education in music.
