Theological college apologises after hosting service with 'gay slang' liturgy

According to the Daily Telegraph, Jesus was referred to as "Josie" and God as the "Duchess" in the service which was labelled the "queering of the liturgy of evening prayer".

The gathering, which was put together by students training for ministry, used Polari - a language introduced by comedians in the 50s and 60s and recognised as gay innuendo.

It has faced much criticism with Andrew Symes from conservative group Anglican Mainstream stating that it "brings the Church into disrepute".

The Principal of Westcott House has issued a full apology for the service which he says was unauthorised and not vetted beforehand.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Canon Chris Chivers said: "Theological colleges are a place where experiments are important and mistakes can be made, because hopefully that means they won't be made in public ministry.

"But it can't be a place where we subvert the doctrine and teaching of the Church."
