Trevor Single from Family Matters Institute told Premier Sunday is a great opportunity to celebrate and pray for fathers and the role they play in family life.
He said it means a lot to him: "Personally, to me it means an opportunity for me to reflect on the two children I've got that have grown up now and the time for me to interact and engage with them."
He said people need to feel more confident telling their fathers that they love them and reminded families that it is important that people reach out to those who may not have a positive experience on Father's Day
"Those that we know that have either not got their father present with them or maybe their father might have died.
"Those that don't have that personal relationship it's important that we can support them in prayer, we can support them in love and recognise that there is a great Father above all, who is with them."
On Sunday The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, is urged fathers to discuss mental well-being with their children and families and be more open about their own feelings as he celebrated his third Father's Day as a parent.
He said: "Today I celebrate my third Father's Day as a father. For me it is a day not just to celebrate how fortunate I am for my young family, but to reflect on just how much I've learned about fatherhood and the issues facing fathers in all walks of life.
"In particular, it is a time to reflect on my responsibility to look after not just the physical health of my two children, but to treat their mental needs as just as important a priority."
