Shot NI missionary returns home

Maud Kells was serving with WEC International and is a member of Cookstown's Molesworth Presbyterian Church, which has confirmed her return.

The minister there, Revd Ivor Smith, said it was "great to have her home".

"Maud flew home from the DRC via Kampala and London on Sunday with two friends who went out to Uganda last week to support her on the long journey back.

"I saw her this afternoon and she was in good form and looking well, considering what she has been through.

"Her family and friends are delighted to have her home and thank God that she continues to make a good recovery from injuries she received after the shooting last month.

"Maud asked me again to thank everyone for their encouraging support and prayers which she has found quite humbling.

"Now she is safely back, Maud will obviously need some time to build up her strength.

"She also told me that she looks forward to telling her story when she is feeling up to it, but in the meantime we would once again ask that her privacy, and that of her family be respected."

Maud, 75, was shot by bandits outside her home in an attack that could have left her dead or paralysed.
