The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, will address world leaders at a climate summit at the Vatican on Thursday.
As co-chair of C40 Cities – a global network of mayors for climate action - Khan is expected to discuss strategies to tackle the climate crisis and highlight how interfaith cooperation can drive change.
The Muslim mayor is also set to have a private audience with the Pope - the first London mayor to do so.
The Pope has been vocal in his concerns about the effects of global warming.
Speaking in his October document known as Laudate Deum, the pontiff warned we are now "unable to halt the enormous damage we have caused" and roused governments to reduce the impact of climate change as our planet "fast reaches a point of no return".
Last year, Khan addressed the UN Climate Ambition Summit at the UN General Assembly, calling cities' 'climate titans', that can use their "might and muscle" to bring down carbon emissions.
Khan said he is "determined for London to continue to be a world leader in tackling the twin dangers of air pollution and the climate emergency, but the need for coordinated global action has never been so urgent.
"As Mayor of one of the most diverse cities in the world, where we celebrate the huge contributions of different religious communities, it will also be an honour to discuss how faith and cooperation between different faiths can be a force for so much good."
