Rotherham abuse reflects 'a national problem', says Church Child Protection Group

It comes as the former cabinet member responsible for children's services in Rotherham is facing pressure to stand down from his new role as South Yorkshire's Police and Crime Commissioner.

It's after a report released yesterday revealed more than 1,400 children were sexually exploited in the town over a 16 year period.

Shaun Wright was a Labour councillor for Rotherham, responsible for children's services in the town from 2005 to 2010. He was elected to the PCC role in 2012.

Simon Bass, who's CEO of the Church Child Protection Group, told Premier more ought to be done to prosecute the abusers:

"There's got to be people who are accountable, but let's not just focus on that; Let's look at getting some answers, because there are one thousand four hundred victims here and very few people have been prosecuted".
