TV personality and ordained minister Rev Richard Coles is set to appear on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The jungle reality show sees contestants living in an Australian bush set, and undertaking challenges known as ‘bush tucker’ trials, which involve eating live insects.

Contestants aim to be crowned ‘king’ or ‘queen’ of the jungle.

Rev Coles, 62, was formerly in 1980s pop band The Communados, and has authored best-selling parish mystery books such as Murder at the Monastery and Murder Before Evensong.  He is no stranger to reality TV, having previously appeared on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing

Broadcast journalist Jessica Stark told Premier Christian Radio that Rev Coles' appearance as a person of religious authority in the secular space of reality TV provides an opportunity for the gospel to be shared.

"I love it when Christians go into secular spaces," she said.

"When you are with this title of 'Reverend', or, you know, 'Christian', that comes with its own stigmas, joys and responsibilities. People already have a perception of you.

"Actually, we're human... that's the beautiful part. When we watch Christians go on reality shows, they're walking out their faith, in a part of the world for us to see."
