Pop star Raye has revealed she has stepped away from social media and now turns to a Bible app instead of Instagram, as she prioritises her wellbeing and faith.
The Grammy-winning south London singer, known for her emotionally driven music, said she now stays “offline as much as she can”, adding that avoiding social media has improved her mental health and helped her distance herself from online criticism.
In an interview with The Times, Raye said she looks “for answers in a Bible app, not cruising Instagram”.
She added: “I think since I’ve come offline it’s been much better. Ignorance is bliss. If someone said I look awful in a dress, it’d make me sad. If I don’t know someone said I look awful in a dress… So I’m really (big) on being offline.”
Raye said she had worked “as hard as I can” over recent years and is now more focused on balance, stepping back from the pressure of constant output and online attention.
She also noted that during earlier “dark days” in her career, her Christian faith helped her through a period of alcohol and drug misuse while signed to a major label.
The 'Where is my husband?' singer told fans she is taking a long break from writing new music until she falls in love, saying her next album will not begin until that chapter of her life changes.
Raye, born Rachel Agatha Keen, recently released her second album This Music May Contain Hope.
