Rave in the nave: Historic seaside church hosts techno gig

by Anna Rees Green

St James’ Church in Poole will swap tradition for techno, in a live music event hosted by artist RMCL.

Known as ‘the fishermen’s church’ due to its maritime history, St James’ will be lit up with drones to display its Georgian architecture.

Drones will be used throughout to showcase the Georgian architecture of St James Church, also known as 'the fishermen's church' due to its historical affiliation with the local fishing industry.

The event is organised by OCOL (One City One Light). Broadcaster and director, Toby Gardner told the Daily Echo: "Broadcasting from unconventional spaces is something we love doing, but every location presents its challenges.

“It will be a long climb up the tower with all our kit, but we have done worse."

Music will rain down from the bell tower rooftop, where crowds can watch from inside the building.

But for those wanting to rave in the nave, no public access to the tower itself will be granted.

OCOL is a non-profit organisation, bringing live music events to unique heritage locations across the UK. Previous venues include Salisbury Cathedral.
