The rapper Bill Kahan Kapri, better known to fans of "Kodak Black," announced on Sunday that he accepted "Jesus as my Lord and Savior".
Kapri made news earlier this year when he was one of 73 people granted pardons by the Trump administration before he departed from office. The rapper was sentenced to 46 months in prison for making false statements on federal documents to buy a firearm. Bradford Cohen had advocated for it alongside Lil Wayne. In the announcement of Kapri's pardon, the Trump administration described the rapper as a "prominent artist and community leader" whose pardon was advocated for by several religious leaders in the Black community.
Kapri's conversion occurred days after Kevin Louidor and Annia Icart, who both minister at King Jesus Universal Ministry, stated that they had prayed with Kapri.
"TESTIMONY! GOD SAVES!" Louidor wrote in a Facebook post. "On our way to our church King Jesus Universal Ministry with my sister in Christ Annia Icart, we went to stop by the gas station, and we happen to meet a popular rapper Kodak Black and the Lord used us to minister to him and his crew, and Kodak gave his life to Jesus Christ!"
A few days later, Kapri posted a video reciting a prayer seeking Christ in his life on Instagram. Kapri had previously identified as a Hebrew Israelite and was part of a community of Black men and women who believe themselves to be the original Hebrew descendants rather than the Jews. Kapri's second album, Dying to Live, peaked at number 1 on the Billboard charts in 2018.
