Quarter of children want to be "rich" and "famous", finds survey

Nearly a quarter of children in the UK want to be "rich" when they grow up, according to a new survey.

Over 1,300 young people under 10 were asked what they wanted to be when they grew up, with another 6 percent saying they have no desire to ever work.

The survey by VoucherCodesPro.co.uk finds the second career choice of kids in Britain is "to become famous" while less popular answers included "police officer" and "zoo keeper".

Donia Narh, a Christian from the Aces Project who works with young people and teachers blames career advice in schools and what's being pumped into living rooms through the TV. Speaking on Premier's 'News Hour', she said: "reality tv is having a negative impact:"wanting to be rich and famous highlights the impact of reality shows, celebrity culture. Previously, if you asked young children what they wanted to be it was a balerina, maybe join the police".

"When I grow up I want..."

1. Just want to be rich - 22%
2. Famous - 19%
3. Police Officer - 16%
4. Zookeeper - 14%
5. Fire Fighter - 13%
6. Doctor - 10%
7. Vet - 8%
8. Bus Driver - 7%
9. Shop Keeper - 7%
10. Don't want to work - 6%
