Priest who supported April Jones' family made Canon

Revd Kath Rogers, received national attention for the ways she brought Machynlleth together after the abduction of April Jones.

The girl disappeared on 1 October 2012 whilst out playing with friends in the village.

46-year-old Mark Bridger was arrested and found guilty of April's abduction and murder.

Revd Rogers opened the doors of St Peter's church whilst the search for the five year old went on.

She also presided over her funeral.

She'll now be a Canon at Bangor Cathedral but will not have to leave St Peter's.

In announcing the decision the Diocese of Bangor specifically mentioned her role in helping the family of April Jones.

She said: "It is with gratitude and some trepidation that I have accepted the Bishop's generous invitation to become a Canon of Bangor Cathedral.

"This is something that never even came close to my wildest dreams. It is such honour, not just for me but for all that we do together in Machynlleth and our surrounding area."
