Priest pays tribute to teen killed in schoolyard

by Aaron James

Oisin McGrath was hurt while playing Gaelic football during lunchtime at St Michael's College in County Fermanagh, Enniskillen on Monday. He died last night.

An investigation into Oisin McGrath's death is continuing. A 17-year-old sixth-form student at St Michael's College has been questioned and released on bail.

Speaking about the boy's family, the local priest, Seamus Quinn said: "There are no words to describe what they're going through. They're devastated, utterly devastated, they're numb, they're in shock.

"He was a lovely, friendly, well-integrated and well-grounded youngster. An unpretentious friendly lad who was well able to put his shoulder to the wheel with just about anything that he'd be asked to do.

"[He was] Easy to mix with, got on with people well, he would help out his own peers as well.

"He served Mass here for a short while... The whole family diaspora are a faith-based diaspora as well. So prayer has been and is still very much part of the way they come at things. They have a Christian worldview.

"I found myself at the bed praying with Oisin yesterday evening, only to find his relations... streaming in to pray themselves."

Northern Ireland's First Minister, Peter Robinson, has said he is also praying for Oisin McGrath's family. Mr Robinson described the boy's death as "heart-breaking".
