Pre-election prayer rally planned for Parliament Square

by Desmond Busteed

In an open letter, Dr Oloyede also praises recent efforts by various church organisations to encourage an active interest in politics before the election campaign.

In the letter he refers to the Church of England's House of Bishops' Pastoral Letter, which aimed to help church members consider how to vote, the Black Majority Church manifesto and the Show Up campaign.

Together they will bring 40 Christian organisations and denominations together. Dr Oloyede also praised the "prophetic and poignant" sign of the church's visibility around this Election campaign.

A record number of church election hustings have been registered on the Christian charity CARE's election website. More than 325 hustings from all across the UK have been listed, an increase on the 293 registrations in 2010.

If Christians are unable to get into London for the event in Parliament Square, Dr Oloyede has also urged Christians to meet in 5s, 50s, 500s or even 5000 others on their high street, town centre, market square or anywhere visible including their street.

Local events have already been planned in St Helens, Thurrock, Havering, Eastbourne, Stafford and Derby.
