Poll finds Christians want politicians with 'long-term vision'

by Desmond Busteed

According to a Church Action on Poverty poll carried out by Comres, more than four in five also believe the leaders of today's UK political parties don't "clearly communicate a long-term positive vision" for society.

However, the poll suggests Christians believe that there is more that churches and church leaders can do in this area.

More than three quarters say church leaders in the UK do not effectively challenge politicians to communicate a long-term positive vision for society.

Over nine in ten also say that churches and church leaders in the UK have a key role to play in promoting a debate about what makes a good society.

The poll results conincide with the launch of Church Action on Poverty Sunday and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland's "2020 Vision of the Good Society" report.

The report wants churches to kick start public debate, by organising local 'Good Society hustings' where party candidates are only allowed to share their positive vision for society at local churches.
