Phone-friendly map shows you may live closer to a Christmas church service than you think

The Church's 12,500 parishes are each holding, on average, four services - including 1,000 Nativity plays and 28,000 carol performances.

More than 56,000 events have been registered on A Church Near You, the Church's smartphone-compatible website inviting people search for nearby services by entering their post code.

Head of Digital Communications at the Church of England, Adrian Harris told Premier: "It's really lovely to have this resource in place so that we can bring people into relationship with God and [tell them about] the birth of his son at this special time."

A Church Near You also allows users to find a church which matches their requirements in terms of provided facilities, such as disabled access.

They're also invited to seek out churches which provide things like mulled wine, a choir or mince pies.

Adrian Harris added: "If you put in your post code, town, village or city, it will take you through to a map and it will show you all of the churches near you.

"After services... we've got 6,500 churches serving mince pies and we've got over 4,500 serving mulled wine, so we'll be very sure of a warm welcome at a Church of England church this Christmas."

The website forms part of the Church of England's Renewal and Reform strategy for sharing the Christian faith on digital and social media.
