Pastor interrupts church service because song is 'boring' him 'to death'

by Tola Mbakwe

A controversial UK pastor is once again a topic of conversation on social media, after he stopped a worship band mid-service because the song was too "boring."

Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, better known as Pastor Tobi, is the global pastor of Nxtion Family, formerly known as SPAC Nation in London.

A video shows him during a service on Sunday stop the band as they were singing.

He said: "Okay thank you guys be seated please. Livingstone [the church's worship band] is amazing but that song was boring me to death so I had to come up, that was just long.

"But thank you, we'll sing together in a minute. I was sleeping off."

The band followed the pastor's directions and took their seats after singing what appeared to be a rendition of the song 'Reckless love' by Cory Asbury.

The short video has been commented on widely on social media with many shocked by the situation.

One Twitter user said: "Pastor Tobi Adegboyega's comment during the worship was unnecessary and uncalled for. What did he mean 'the song was boring him to death'? That's uncharacteristic of a true leader. Praises and worships are offered to God, not to pastors and not for entertainment."

Other people thought the situation was comical.

"... I hate that I love Pastor Tobi so much but he's actually just so cool. Like I think it's the fact he actually lacks no shame that does it for me," said another Twitter user.

Premier has contacted the church and Pastor Tobi for a comment.

Pastor Tobi was last making headlines in June after SPAC Nation, legally known as Salvation Proclaimer Ministries Limited, was wound up in the High Court because it failed to fully show how it spent £1.87m.

For a few years, the church got positive media attention for its efforts in helping young people to stay out of crime, including plaudits from within the government.

However in 2019, SPAC Nation was accused multiple times of financially exploiting its members, most of them young adults.

In 2020, the Metropolitan Police chose not to open a criminal investigation into the church after reviewing allegations.

SPAC Nation has persistently denied any wrongdoing. The church rebranded as Nxtion Family in July 2021.
