Parishoners 'all shook up' by Elvis-led worship

St Canice's Church, Eglinton invited Andy Rogers, an Elvis impersonator to lead worship at a special service on Sunday.

Rev Paul Hoey told the congregation - who had travelled to the service from across the country - to enjoy the music and "be open to the message of the songs".

As well as singing a number of Elvis classics, including Blue Suede Shoes and All Shook Up, Rogers also belted Take My Hand Precious Lord and How Great Thou Art.

The Jailhouse Rock singer, who was notorious among some conservative Christians because of his dance moves, had also recorded a number of gospel songs in his lifetime.

Rodgers performance involved three costume changes including a GI's uniform, black leathers, and a sequined white jumpsuit.

Rev Paul told the BBC: ""Last year I heard Andy Rodgers sing at a concert."

"As I listened it began to dawn on me how many of the songs related to the message of the Church."

The popularity of the service may mean that Rogers will be invited back to the building for an encore.
