Outrage over speculation on 'husband' and 'wife' redefinition

The government's being accused of overruling the dictionary with plans to allow men be called  'wives' and women 'husbands' if gay marriage is legalised.

The landmark change is contained in the fine print of new official legal guidance drawn up for MPs and Peers as the government's same-sex marriage bill is debated.

The Government's told Premier it's not changing the meaning of the words but the legislation made after the Bill comes into force will reflect that there are both opposite sex marriages and same sex marriages, and will use this language.
