Nuns lose appeal against Katy Perry convent purchase

The singer has been trying to purchase the property belonging to the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary but controlled by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 2015.

The nuns argued they had not approved the purchase of the property and they were unhappy with Katy Perry's music videos.

Katy Perry offered $14.5 million for the property in 2015

The order of nuns said they would prefer to sell the property to restauranteur Dana Hollister.

Sisters Catherine Rose Holzman and Rita Callanan - two of the five remaining nuns of the order - also claimed they had the right to sell the property because the 8-acre convent was donated to their order 40 years ago by a parishioner.

Last April a judge ruled the archdiocese had the right to sell the property to whoever they wanted and on Wednesday Judge Stephanie Bowick upheld the ruling.

The property can now be sold to the California Gurls singer for $14.5 million.

Katy Perry, the daughter of a pastor, identifies as a Christian and has a Jesus tattoo on her wrist.
