Nun describes Syrian persecution

Sister Annie Demerjian will talk about her work providing emergency aid and spiritual support to thousands of people trapped in northern Syria.

The sister and her team of volunteers go house-to-house in the area, providing food, shelter and medicine at great risk to their own safety. As winter approaches, she will start to work with local charities to distribute heating for families too.

Archbishop Sebastian Shaw of Lahore, Pakistan, will also accompany sister Annie to discuss the work of the Church in areas where growing extremism threatens religious minorities.

Today in Syria, almost 30,000 Christians - around 60 per cent of Aleppo's pre-war population - have fled the country.

Lorraine McMahon, Head of Aid to the Church in Need Operations in Scotland, said: "We often sit at home watching the situation in Syria unfold, feeling powerless.

"However, through ACN, people in Scotland have the opportunity to make a real, clear and practical contribution to healing the wounds of those suffering today in Syria and around the world."
