Councillors in Norfolk have approved the rebuilding of a church hall - but are concerned that the plans might need to be even bigger, to accomoate for the 'Quiet Revival'.

Breckland Council planning committee met to discuss plans for the small Dereham Gospel Church to demolish its existing hall and rebuild it with a larger, more contemporary building, over concerns about the building’s current state and accessibility for older members.

The church currently sees around 45 congregants gather to worship on a Sunday, however councillors suggested that revival could lead to the new building becoming overwhelmed. 

Councillor Gordon Bambridge addressed the committee, questioning whether the church would be suitable for “an influx” of “newly enlivened people”.

Chairman Nigel Wilkin responded by raising further concerns over a possible "number of coaches" bringing newcomers, to which one church member stated they “wouldn’t turn anyone away”.

“The way things are at the moment, I think a lot of us need to start praying soon," concluded Wilkin.
