New Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham

He's to leave his role as Vicar General of the Brentwood Diocese to become the new director of the Catholic shrine.

It's after the Marist Fathers announced they were leaving after almost 50 years in September.

The shrine was established in 1061 on the grounds of a destroyed Augustinian priory.

Cardinal Vincent Nichols said: "I am delighted to learn that Mgr John Armitage is to take up this position.

"His deep devotion to Our Blessed Lady, his remarkable pastoral drive and enthusiasm, make his appointment a moment of great promise not only for the Shrine but also for the Church in this country and for our mission."
