Rev Canon Dr Tim Lomax has been announced as the new Bishop of Warwick. 

He is currently the director of mission and ministry in the Diocese of St Albans and residentiary canon at St Albans Cathedral, having been ordained in 2007. He trained at Ridley Hall and has also ministered in the Diocese of Litchfield. 

Rev Canon Lomax said: “It is with a deep sense of joy that I am following God’s calling to serve as the next Bishop of Warwick. 

“I am looking forward to returning to the Midlands and getting to know the people and places of Coventry and Warwickshire, listening to their stories and discovering where God is already at work and where the Holy Spirit may be opening new possibilities.”

Having grown up in Stoke-on-Trent, Rev Lomax’s first lay ministry post was supporting children and young people in urban areas, working with schools and contributing to community regeneration. 

He completed a Doctor of Ministry in 2024, researching how the Church of England can cultivate a vibrant mixed ecology, of traditional parish structures working with new forms of Christian community; he had also served on the Church’s Liturgical Commission.

He is married to Rev Kate Lomax, who is also ordained and they have three young adult children. Rev Lomax is also a musician, supporter of Stoke City FC and enjoys spending time outdoors with the family’s labradors. 

Rev Lomax takes over from Rt Rev John Stroyan, following his retirement in 2023. The suffragan bishop position supports the whole diocese of Coventry and Warwickshire, not just the town of Warwick. 

The appointment was confirmed by Downing Street on Friday, approval given by the King on the advice of the previous Prime Minister. Andy Burnham has since stated his intention to change the law which currently bars him from the symbolic process, as a professing Roman Catholic.
