A Minnesota woman has been charged with the murder of her husband while they were serving as missionaries in Angola, their church has confirmed.
Beau Shroyer, 44, was found dead in a vehicle in Thienjo, southern Angola, in October 2024.
His wife, Jackie Shroyer, was arrested the following month and is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot after allegedly engaging in an affair, according to Fox News.
Pastor Troy Eaton of the Detroit Lakes church expressed deep sorrow, asking for prayers that "truth will come to light, justice will be served, and God's will be done".
The Shroyer family had been serving in Angola since 2021 through SIM USA, which said they were "shocked and devastated" by Jackie’s arrest.
The organisation expressed gratitude to Angolan authorities for their diligence and affirmed its commitment to seeking justice for Beau while ensuring Jackie has legal representation.
Investigators allege Jackie had an affair with the family’s security guard, Bernadino Elias, 24, and conspired with him and two others, offering them $50,000 (£39,655) to kill her husband.
Authorities said the suspects staged a car breakdown to lure Beau to a remote area, where he was fatally stabbed.
Police released images of two suspects outside a station, standing near a rental car and Beau’s white SUV.
Inside the vehicle, investigators found a bloodstained seat, binoculars, and the knife used in the attack.
Friends described Beau as deeply devoted to his faith and service.
Former colleague David Dorman called him "one of the most selfless people I've ever met".
The Shroyers' five children are being cared for by close relatives, with support from SIM USA and their home church.
Jackie is expected to remain in custody in Angola, with her trial set to take place in the next six months.
