Megachurch Pastor Mark Driscoll has publicly appealed for Jesus to return before the upcoming US 5th November Election Day, amid increasing discussions of a civil war in the United States.
This plea came shortly after former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential race, was convicted on multiple charges related to a sex scandal cover-up during his 2016 campaign.
Driscoll, founder of Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, expressed his request on social media platform X, stating, "Lord Jesus we would humbly request that you return before November 5."
In earlier statements, Driscoll emphasised the spiritual nature of societal issues, noting on Instagram, "Government can't fix spiritual problems; it's ultimately a God problem."
On Thursday, Trump became the first former U.S. president convicted of a crime, found guilty of falsifying business records to conceal payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The verdict sparked reactions across the political spectrum, with devout Baptist and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson labeling it a "shameful day in American history" and Rep. Elise Stefanik decrying the justice system as "corrupt and rigged."
As political and cultural tensions rise, some commentators have speculated about the potential for civil unrest or another civil war in the United States. US conservative commentator Joey Mannarino reacted to Trump's conviction by declaring on X that "The Civil War just began."
Amid these discussions, Pastor Driscoll has called for Christian sobriety in approaching the election and expressed his reservations about both major candidates due to their age and personal flaws.
