Hollywood movie star Mark Wahlberg has shared his unorthodox plans for the Lenten season. Speaking in a video posted to Twitter on Ash Wednesday last week, the star explained how he wouldn't be giving anything up in the period of time before Easter, but would instead be doing more to bless others.

"People always ask, 'what are you gonna give up for lent'?"  Wahlberg explained. “And I think, more importantly, I'll try to do more.. more love, more peace, more acceptance, more caring and more kindness."

Striding out of church with an ash cross emblazoned across his forehead, Wahlberg concluded the short video: "Have a beautiful Lenten season, God bless you all, see you on Easter. Love you.”

One of the most recognisable faces in the movie industry, Mark Wahlberg has talked openly about his Christian faith in recent years. In September 2018, he sparked a interest in his spiritual life after posting his brutal daily workout schedule to social media, which included a 2:45am "prayer time" slot, before a massive gym session.

Speaking to Relevant Magazine last year, the "Lone Survivor" star expanded on his prayer life: "There are so many things that I think about that I pray about,” he said.

“Those that are less fortunate, those that don’t have God in their life and then all the responsibilities that I have as a husband, as a father.

"There are a lot of things that I need help and guidance on. I can lock in on what’s important and what I need to focus on and then, especially, express my gratitude.”

Many responded to Wahlberg's twitter video with encouraging words. "I love this so much! I’m going to show it to my 9th and 10th grade Theology students!" one person wrote. "Thank you for your witness!!"
