An Oxfordshire man has been charged with one count of threats to kill after he allegedly vowed to cut off a doctor's head at church.

Shane Brash, 36, appeared via video link from prison at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, the Oxford Mail reports.

He is accused of threatening to kill Dr Saik de La Motte, a consultant psychiatrist, at St Mary's Church in Banbury on July 23 this year.

Mr Brash allegedly told the psychiatrist that he would "cut his head off".

The accused appeared in court for a plea and trial preparation hearing, but the case has been delayed to allow for him to be assessed by a psychiatrist.

The next case hearing is scheduled for August 23.
