Police have arrested a man who barricaded himself inside St Martin’s Church in Overstrand, Norfolk, resulting in a 25-hour standoff.
The incident concluded when officers entered the medieval church around 5:30 PM on Friday 27th September.
According to North Norfolk News, the man, in his 30s, was unharmed during the ordeal.
Inside the 15th-century church, authorities discovered a twelve-inch machete and a sharpened flagpole resembling a spear.
Officers were dispatched to the scene just before 4 PM on Thursday 26th September after receiving reports of a man experiencing "significant mental health distress."
Throughout the day, specialised police units, including negotiators and firearms officers, worked to resolve the situation.
Chief Inspector Nick Paling expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation, stating, "We did our very best to manage this incident as safely and as quickly as possible. I’m pleased this has now ended, and the man is receiving care from medical professionals."
