Man arrested on suspicion of arson at Life Church Bradford as investigation continues

by Sophie Drew

A man has been arrested following two incidents resulting in the evacuation of Life Church in Bradford.

Police labelled one incident as a "security threat" and opened an investigation into a supposed hate crime.

A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

The incident is no longer being considered a hate crime.

Following the initial incident, police stepped up patrols in the area, to provide reassurance to the community.

Life Church is one of the biggest churches in Yorkshire, and previously had two campuses spread across Bradford and Leeds.

Life Church has remained quiet about the incident, and is yet to address the suspected attack on social media or as part of their online services.

Prior to the arrest, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell of Bradford District Crime Team said:  "I would appeal to the community if anyone knows anything about the criminal damage caused to come forward."
