by Anna Rees

A man has been arrested after three churches in Devon were broken into and burgled.

A break-in was reported at St Andrew's Church, Ashburton, in the middle of the night on Tuesday, 27th August. Police say a number of items were stolen.

On Wednesday, 11th September, and Thursday, 12th September, entry was gained into St Martin and St Mary Parish Church in Chudleigh, where more items were stolen.

Christ Church, Paignton, experienced the same fate the following Tuesday.

A man in his 60s from Paignton has been arrested on suspicion of burglary related to the Ashburton break-in. He has been released on police bail as the investigation continues.

Officers are now appealing for information.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for information following a series of church burglaries in South Devon."
