Loose Women panellist Kelle Bryan reflects on decade of celibacy after finding faith

by Tola Mbakwe

Singer and television personality Kelle Bryan has opened up about her decision to remain celibate for a decade after becoming a Christian at the age of 21.

Speaking on Loose Women, Bryan described her life as having two distinct chapters, joking that her story could be divided into "pre-Christian and "post-Christian".

She shared with fellow panellests on the daytime chat show that she became a Christian at 21 and spent ten years afterwards being celibate before getting married.

Reflecting on her life before becoming a Christian, she said: "Pre-Christian....I was young, free, single, didn't have any kids, no responsibilities, and I did whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, and it didn't bother me in the slightest, and I did have a great time."

However, she said her perspective changed after coming to faith.

"When I think about the consequences for those actions, sometimes maybe they weren't quite the best decisions to be making," she said.

The former Hollyoaks star told the panel that although remaining celibate throughout her twenties was unusual to some people, it was a decision she felt strongly about.

"I just knew that that's what I wanted to do," she said. "Actually, I felt much better within myself, keeping myself, because whoever my husband was going to be was going to be really special, and I wanted to give that to them, and them alone."

She added that her faith changed the way she saw herself and her future marriage. "Because of my past, I then valued myself differently, and I valued who I was and what I was giving to that person, and I wanted it to be special."

Bryan has frequently spoken about the role her Christian faith plays in her life.

The 51-year-old has often spoken publicly about the role her Christian faith plays in her life. In a previous appearance on Loose Women in 2019, she recounted a frightening health scare linked to lupus, a condition she has lived with for many years.

Bryan told the programme that she became temporarily paralysed and feared she would suffocate when a pillow covered her face. Bryan said she prayed for help and, moments later, a nurse entered the room and came to her aid. she said it prompted her to turn to God immediately.
