Justin and Hailey Bieber open up about some of the toughest moments in their marriage to pastor Judah Smith

by Kelly Valencia

Justin and Hailey Bieber have shared some of the toughest moments in their marriage on a recent episode of the "In Good Faith" podcast hosted by pastor Judah Smith and his wife Chelsea.

Pastor Smith is often referred to as Justin Bieber's pastor and the four have developed a close friendship through the years.

In the episode, called "Why Marriage?" Justin Bieber admitted how he had to do some "serious healing" before getting married and how after tying the knot he still needed to work through "a lot of damage and hurt".

"I had a lot of trauma and scars, so I just committed to working on those things, getting healthy. And Hailey just accepted me as I was," Bieber said.

"And when we got married, there was still a lot of damage and hurt that I still needed to work through, but she had seen my heart through it all. And I could cry thinking about it, to be honest. I just came to a point when I was like: 'There's no other thing that I want more.'"

The couple started dating in June 2018 and by September the same year, they had married.

They went on to share that after getting married Justin faced a mental health challenge which was very difficult to deal with as a couple.

"I was having these out-of-body experiences," Justin said. He explained how he was having issues with "weird sensory stuff," such as his arms and hands feeling in a "weird way."

Asked by pastor Smith how she coped during those moments, Hailey said it was "the hardest thing" in her life.

"I think I called my mom a lot through that process," she said. "I remember one particular time, when we were in Brooklyn, and I was calling I was like crying, I was like, I just can't do it. Like, there is no way that I'm going to be able to do this if it's going to be like this forever. And I just remember, she was so calm on the phone, and she was like, it's going to pass and you're going to be fine. And he's going to be healthy."

She continued: "I knew for a fact that I had loved this person for a very long time, and now would not be the time to give up on him."

"I couldn't do that to him. Imagine abandoning someone in the middle of the worst time of their life potentially. I'm just not that type of a person. I was going to stick it out no matter what the outcome was going to be."

The Biebers explained how having support from their family, counselling sessions and having the Smiths have helped them overcome the more difficult times in their marriage.

The episode concluded with Justin Bieber praying: "God we just thank you so much. I thank you so much for this life. I thank you so much for Judah and Chelsea. I thank you so much for marriage. I thank you so much for what it's done for our lives. God, I just pray that You would just continue to bless both of our marriages. I just pray for just continued confidence and direction and I just pray that You would just continue to speak to us."
