Jersey’s Catholic Church announces it's easing in Covid restrictions

Jersey’s Catholic church have announced an ease in Covid restrictions for islanders wanting to attend Mass.

The historic Roman Catholic Church, St Thomas’s will resume the use of Holy Water stoups, which will be renewed weekly.

The islanders do not need to socially distance anymore but are reminded to be mindful of other people attending.

Masks are now not mandatory for attendees and contact tracing is no longer required.

The church is continuing however to restrict certain activities at this time.

Holy Communions will only be able to be handed out, those who wish to receive it on the tongue should come at the end of the procession.

Islanders are also reminded that if they are showing any symptoms of coronavirus, they should remain at home and not attend any services.

St Thomas's Church first opened it's doors in 1887 and is the largest church in the Channel Islands. 

Restoring Catholicism was restored to Jersey with the influx of refugees fleeing to the island to escape the French Revolution.

With the arrival of bishops, priests and laity from revolutionary France, Catholic chapels were set up in St. Helier to meet their spiritual needs
